AROUND TOWN: Walmart celebrates $580,000 in grants to area nonprofits

Area Walmarts were dinner hosts in February for a community celebration of more than $580,000 in philanthropic grants to nonprofits.  Market managers Jon Ball and Marc Skaggs welcomed recipients and store representatives to Cheyenne Mountain Resort where a sit-down meal, with music by the Colorado Springs Conservatory, preceded the presentations.

Receiving grants and the stores and neighborhood markets that had chosen them:

Mothers of Murdered Youth, $4,000 (Platte); Tri-Lakes Silver Alliance, $5,000 (Monument); Teller County Sheriff’s Office “Shop With a Cop,” $5,500 (Woodland Park); Able Dog, $6,000 (Venetucci); Dale House Project, $7,000 (Razorback); Angels of America’s Fallen, $7,000 (Austin Bluffs); Partners in Housing, $7,000 (8th Street); Connections 4 Life Center, $10,000 (Fountain); Special Kids Special Families, $10,000 (South Academy); Safe Passage, $11,500 (Union); REACH Colorado Springs, $12,000 (Murray); Catholic Charities of Central Colorado, $19,500 (Palmer Park); Shield616, $20,000 (Falcon); Heart Association Heart and Stroke Walk, Wal-Mart’s Volunteerism Always Pays, $5,000 (Woodmen), top Wal-Mart walkers, Stephanie Streeter and Holly Adams.

The Walmart State Giving Program grants:
